Nuclear power station to reduce water consumption and desalinate groundwater (South Africa)

In response to this, Eskom has decided to install a groundwater desalination plant at Koeberg nuclear power station. This process entails removing salts and other contaminants from groundwater to make it suitable for human consumption. In this instance, groundwater from the aquarium located near to the power station will be desalinated for use at Koeberg nuclear power station for its daily needs.

The objective of this project is to reduce Koeberg’s dependency on, and consumption of municipal water supplied by the City of Cape Town. This effort contributes to the city’s goal, which is to reduce water [

New way to recover almost 100 percent of the water from highly concentrated salt solutions

the researchers developed a self-heating carbon nanotube-based membrane that only heats the brine at the membrane surface. The new system reduced the heat needed in the process and increased the yield of recovered water to close to 100 percent.

In addition to the significantly improved desalination performance, the team also investigated how the application of alternating currents to the membrane heating element could prevent degradation of the carbon nanotubes in the saline environment. Specifically, a threshold frequency was identified where electrochemical oxidation of the nanotubes was prevented, allowing the nanotube films to be operated for significant lengths of [

Evoqua Launches Nexed Electrochemical Desalination Demonstration For Brackish Water

The new brackish water installation, which encompasses a 50 gallon per minute Nexed system at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Desalination Plant in El Paso, TX (KBH), builds upon the current Evoqua pilot for seawater desalination underway in Tuas, Singapore. The demonstration will prove out the economics and value proposition of the Nexed technology in comparison to incumbent RO technology with a focus on higher recovery and lower energy consumption. Once the system is fully operational – which is expected in June 2017 — Evoqua and AccelerateH2O will invite stakeholders to visit the site and observe the system and [

Australia – Victorian Government is ordering minimum amount of 15GL of water from the Victorian Desalination Plant for 2017/18

.

Victorian Minister for Water Lisa Neville said, “The plant was not built to be turned on just when our water supply reached critical levels. Instead its aim is to make sure that our water supply doesn’t fall to those levels in the first place.

“No one’s water bills will increase due to this water order. There will be no additional charges for this year’s water orders – or the minimum water orders of 15GL for the next three years – passed onto consumers.”

These orders will instead be funded from the sale of surplus Renewable Energy Certificates, which [

Renewable energy powered (400 MW) desalination plant in Qatar

.

“Sweden and Qatar are negotiating on a water producing project that will be setup in the north of Qatar and it will use only wind and solar energy to desalinate sea water. My meeting with the minister of energy and industry HE Mohammed Saleh Al Sada has been very productive on this subject,” Oscar Stenström, Swedish Vice minister of trade was quoted by The peninsular.

The minister said that the proposed water plant would use 200MW of power from wind and 200MW from solar panels. “The cost of water desalination will be as low as $1 per cubic [

Discussion on the proposal for a desalination plant on the Bluff (South Africa)

“South Africa is experiencing a severe drought like many countries around the world. As a result the desalination method has been selected to satisfy the collective thirst, consequently destroying the environment. The process of desalination uses more fossil fuels than when sourcing comparable quantities of clean drinking water,” added Gomes.

The desalination procedure entails two pipelines: One to be utilised to take in sea water and the other to discard waste back into the sea. The intake pipeline emits penetrating sound waves that cause marine life to flee from that vicinity as it vacuums up phytoplankton, fish larvae, fish [
